This Award is for Young Members, between 5 and 17 years of age who have done something extra special in their Unit,

or in their local community

County Ranger/Young Leader Award

(Badge and Certificate )

To recognise excellent or continuous good service within their Unit, District, Division or County for at least 12 months.

Nominated by Unit Leader or Commissioner.

County Good Service Award - the County Thanks Badge

(Badge and Certificate)

To recognise good service in Worcestershire. This could include gaining an extra qualification, completion of a special project, or participation in District, Division or County events.

This may be awarded to members or non-members.

County Brooch

(Brooch and Certificate)

This award acknowledges outstanding service to Worcestershire, often in more than one capacity. It is not intended to be given solely for length of service but given for consistent and exceptional service.

This may be awarded to any adult member of Girlguiding Worcestershire.

Association Good Service Brooch

This brooch may be given to an adult member of Girlguiding, who holds a current member and recognised volunteer card, or who may have completed a role no more than six months before the application is made.

Nominated by Unit Leader or Commissioner.

Association Thanks Badge

The Thanks Badge can either be a brooch or lapel pin given to members and non-members of Girlguiding as a sign of appreciation for their support. Any member of Girlguiding may present a Thanks Badge after discussion with a leader or Commissioner.

MIDLAND REGION AWARDS

Girlguiding Midlands has three awards recognising outstanding service at all levels.  

The next Chief Commissioner award will be presented in 2025 and the forms are now on the Midlands region website (link below)

Midlands Region Award

An award given to active adult members of Girlguiding Midlands.  The nominee should have given exceptional service, commitment or inspirational volunteering at county or region level, had an impact within their county and / or region and be highly respected by their guiding peers.

Midland Region Award of Merit

This award may be given to any member of Girlguiding Midlands who have shown great initiative and responsibility either at an incident or during a particular / certain circumstance,

OR

to any member under the age of 30 who continues their guiding activities whilst displaying a positive attitude despite experiencing a long-term medical condition or coping with exceptional circumstances.

Girlguiding Hero Award

Girlguiding have created a very special certificate for a Girlguiding Hero

Heroes can be of any age. They can be members or friends of Girlguiding. Reasons to give the Girlguiding Hero certificate are as wide as your imagination!

Examples could be:

  • A special fundraising effort

  • Supporting an individual or member of the community

  • Supporting local guiding

  • Showing fantastic citizenship

  • Coping with adversity

Or…? Well you tell us! Anything that demonstrates the effort a person has put in.

There are other higher Girlguiding UK awards e.g. The Silver Fish and The Laurel Award, these have complex criteria and need to be discussed with Commissioners before making a nomination.

PROCEDURE FOR RECOGNITION AWARDS 2025

  1. Recommendations for all awards can be submitted by anyone involved with Girlguiding, but must be signed by the Division Commissioner/County Commissioner.

  2. All forms for County and Girlguiding Good Service awards must be completed on the correct Nomination Form for 2025. They must be received at the County Office, Acre Lane, Droitwich, Worcs, WR9 9BE, or emailed to countyawards@girlguidingworcs.org.uk by Monday 30 June  at the latest. Forms received after the closing date will be held over until 2026. Guidelines and criteria can be found here

  3. The Awards Panel will meet in July to discuss all awards.

  4. Recipients (and a guest) will be invited to the Thanks & Recognition Event on 28 September at Spring Grove House, within the grounds of West Midlands Safari Park. A short citation will be read and they will receive their award.  Division Commissioners will receive a list of recipients, and also names of any unsuccessful nominees, from their division.

WHAT TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN MAKING A NOMINATION

  • Maintain confidentiality – the nominee should not know of the application.

  • In what capacity do you know the person and for how long.

  • Describe their personal attributes and what makes them stand out from others, try to give examples and build up their character.

  • Describe their Guiding service – their achievements, roles in which they have been in with examples

  • Describe their influence on others – leadership skills, innovative ideas, inspirational work, training skills, supporting adults and girls.

  • What makes them special.

  • Describe any special event or project where they have made an outstanding contribution.

  • Any other aspects of their life which are relevant to the award.
