Refresh your 1st Response training every three years to keep your skills current
Your 1st Response training is valid for three years from the date that you complete the course. After this time, you can attend our 1st Response Refresher course to ensure your knowledge is up to date.
How long will it take?
This is a two-hour course that will refresh your training for a further three years.
Do I need to renew my training?
Not all volunteers have to renew their training, though it’s better for your unit if your knowledge is current. However, each unit must have at least one Leader with a valid 1st Response certificate, or an equivalent first aid qualification.
If you attended an external first aid course in place of 1st Response, you can take this refresher when your qualification expires. Your training will then be up to date for three more years.
We recommend that volunteers who completed 1st Response more than three-and-a-half years ago attend the full 1st Response course, or equivalent first aid training, to refresh their skills.
You have six months after your qualification expires to complete the 1st Response Refresher. If you don’t complete your 1st Response Refresher in this time, your qualification will no longer be valid. You will then need to complete the full 1st Response course again, in order to be the named first aider for your unit or for any activities.
